It is the story he narrated live during roadshow performances of Fantasia that year. The first appearance of the name Yen Sid was in the 1940 screenplay Walt Disney's Fantasia written by Deems Taylor. It is "Disney" spelled backward, which pays tribute to Walt. Yen Sid's name-which is not given in the film itself-was given by the animators. Concept sketches showed early designs of Yen Sid in which the sorcerer had a red beard, rather than his traditional grey.
